OMGosh! Of course she wants to go to prom! She would LOVE it! .....that was my response when the principal of the high school (aka one of my favorite neighbors) asked if Ansley could be the flower girl at this years prom with his son Ethan (aka Ansley's favorite "buddy"). I knew there were one hundred other things going on that day, including me being out of town most of the day, but this took precedence for sure.
First order of business...SHOPPING FOR A DRESS! The girls and I went to Terre Haute and loaded up on dresses to try on in the dressing room (and yes there was a dog in there with its ears pierced!) Ansley loved trying on dresses! She liked the poofy ones the best. She tried on long ones, short ones, bright colors, and polka dots. (The best part was when Sadie had to go potty...we had to hurry! change clothes! race to the OTHER side of the store! go potty! and come back and finish trying on dresses.) Ansley really liked the blue one and I really liked the pink one. We decided to buy both. Ansley decided she would let Daddy decide the winning dress. (little does she know that Mommy told Daddy what to decide). As soon as we got home, she modeled the dresses for Daddy. He "picked" the pink sparkly one....crazy how that worked out. We were so excited and ready for the big day. Ethan was able to wear the tux that Cameron had worn in Melodie and Joni's weddings.
So the big day came....it was full of baseball practices, turkey hunting, a booorrring convention for Mommy, singing in a nursing home, a trip to the library, and all the stuff in between. Aunt Melodie, Nana, Grandma Rita, and Papa Kevin all came to see the "queen" get ready. We curled her hair and fixed it just right, put on some fancy earrings, and some silver shoes, took a few pictures and she was ready to go! She said, "Mom, I'm so nervous I almost peed my pants". We made it to the school on time, the school was full of schmancy teenagers who were so excited about their big night. Ansley and Ethan went backstage and we found our seats. We watched the Grand March (each couple walks through the gym and are announced before the crowning). At the end of the line came little Ansley Ross and Ethan Dean....the CAAYYUUTTEST of them all!! You can't see it in the picture, but Ethan was pulling a wagon, with the crowns inside, with one hand, and the other was attached to Ansley's hand...and she WASN'T letting go. You can see the pure joy on her face. They were adorable...everyone agreed! They completed their job of handing flowers to the queen and giving the crown to the king. Their work was done. After posing for a few pictures with some special friends, we took our girl home.
Definitely a night to remember and a page for the scrapbook! Sooo much fun!
